Action and adventure together have a combined revenue of $73 billion from 1995 to 2016 which is far bigger than any other genre, with comedy coming second $41 billion. Action on its own had total revenue of $33.3 billion. This is the third most of any genre proving that it is one of the most popular film genres to watch, this is because it is exciting and a mainstream genre that relates to the young people within the 16-24 cinema going age.
The top films from 1989-2013 box office, sky fall came first with £102.9 million in 2012. this film is from the genre action and was very popular, it was part of the James Bond line of films, this was double what the previous James Bond film received in the box office.

All of these charts show that action is a top movie genre by sales and views. It is in the top 3 of all of these charts which connotes that it is a top popular genre. This allows us to have a wider target audience as more people want to go and watch this genre. However because there are so many films in this genre it is hard to be original so therefore a lot of the action films are similar and have similarities from various different action films.
